Overview | Officers
The Society of Entrepreneurs was founded in 1991 to foster the development of the entrepreneurial spirit and to recognize the contribution of entrepreneurs to business and the community.
Society of Entrepreneurs' membership is comprised of Mid-South business owners, presidents and other key executives. Members are chosen annually by their peers and must be mature (not emerging) entrepreneurs who have been judged to have exhibited the following personal characteristics and successes: personal business achievement, self direction, leadership, personal integrity, determination, creativity and the ability to transform a vision into a dynamic business achievement.
The organization's purpose is to promote the general welfare of the community, to further the public good and to further education in Tennessee through the creation, development and implementation of various community programs which recognize and encourage the efforts of entrepreneurs in business and the local, national and international community. Our programs are designed to enhance the entrepreneurial spirit and to recognize the historical significance of entrepreneurs in developing a strong community, and to the extent possible, to help ensure that an economic climate exists in this country that allows the development of entrepreneurial enterprises.

Some of our programs include:
Entrepreneurs Roundtable
To help facilitate productive networking and professional growth, The Society of Entrepreneurs sponsors an ongoing series of invitation-only Roundtables designed to bring together the community's emerging business owners and entrepreneurs for free-wheeling discussions and informative talks by influential business and civic leaders. Roundtables may be as casual as a meal or as intense as a business strategy session, and everyone has an opportunity to talk over recent successes, emerging trends, and anything else that is important to our entrepreneurial community. Roundtable members are all Memphis business owners, and once invited, they may attend the monthly Roundtable meetings as their schedules allow. Meetings are held once a month in various locations throughout the city. The Roundtable also hosts a number of events, open to the entire community, intended to expand the reach of the expertise that the Society and Roundtable members have to share. These events include seminars directed toward professional growth and networking breakfasts. Our current schedule can be viewed on the "Upcoming Events" page of the Society's web site. Those who have been invited to the Roundtable are also eligible for participation in the Society's Insights Groups.
Insight Group
All entrepreneurs are familiar with the challenges of turning a vision into a new business, and we all know how important the advice and expertise of others is to getting our ventures off the ground. However once our businesses become successes, our future opportunities and problems become more complex. The right move could yield spectacular results, while the wrong move could become a terrible setback. We want to move ahead every day, but we may feel that our situation has become so unique that it's very hard to find a peer or advisor who can understand it well enough to help. This is one of the prices we pay for being business pioneers. What we need once we have achieved success is not generic advice but the insight that only other entrepreneurs at a similar stage can offer. It would also be nice if we could tap the long range vision of entrepreneurs who have pushed their businesses far beyond our stage to much wider success. Because you're not likely to stumble onto such a circle of advisors accidentally, The Society of Entrepreneurs organizes Insights Groups that bring together highly successful members of the Society with small groups of local business owners whose enterprises make them ideal peers. Society members mentor these groups, limited to 8-12 Entrepreneurs Roundtable members, in an ongoing series of monthly meetings. The benefits of participation are many and unique. Our Insights Groups serve as a forum for problem resolution, provide you with an increased circle of trusted advisors, encourage you to test new directions, help to clarify your vision, and diminish the executive isolation that too often comes with the territory. Each participant has the opportunity to host the group at his or her location and to share business plans and organizational overviews in great detail with the other participants.
